Syllabus 2021
Class Overview:
Design is everywhere. It is impossible to go through a day without seeing countless combinations of words and images on your phone, in magazines, books, billboards, online, on your clothing and even on your shoes. This yearlong course is designed for students who are interested in expressing themselves visually and digitally.
Class Format:
This course is organized as a studio art environment. Most days we will meet for a short time as a group to discuss the day’s objectives, review new assignments and/or to participate in a presentation of work. The bulk of the classroom time will be dedicated to studio design time. Learner preparation and active participation are key elements in this course and are expected every single class session.
Why do I need a Sketchbook?
A sketchbook is a place to keep notes, brainstorm concepts, collect visual examples, sketch out ideas and reflect upon work. The documentation of the creative process is as important as the final project. While I do not expect professional quality drawings, I do expect you to put a great deal of effort into your planning and drawings.
Supplies Needed for Class:
Gmail account to save work
Sketchbook
Pencils #2
Marker Set 12/24 & colored pencils 12/24
1 large eraser
1 two-pocket folder for handouts
1 spiral notebook for notes
Supplies will be needed for class and used only by the individual. In previous years, we have shared supplies and had access to these as a class. Given the circumstances surrounding Covid-19 it is best that ALL students obtain their own supplies for class. The list needed is given above. I thank you for the support of your student and hope to be able to work through the upcoming weeks together.
